Storm promote Boucek to head coach

Seattle, WA (SportsNetwork.com) - Jenny Boucek is the new head coach of the Seattle Storm.

Boucek replaces Brian Agler, who left earlier this month to coach the Los Angeles Sparks.

The 41-year-old Boucek was an associate head coach with the Storm in 2014 after being an assistant coach the previous three seasons.

"It's an honor to be part of a world-class sports franchise," said Boucek. "Seattle has a great championship legacy and I am excited to team up with (team president and general manager) Alisha (Valavanis) and our ownership group as we enter the next era of Storm Basketball."

Boucek began her coaching career during the 1999 WNBA season as an assistant with the Washington Mystics. She then spent three seasons in the same capacity with the Miami Sol from 2000-02.

From 2003-05, Boucek was an assistant coach with the Storm. Seattle won its first WNBA title in 2004.

Boucek was head coach of the now-defunct Sacramento Monarchs for two-plus seasons, spanning from 2007-09.

"Jenny has a tremendous energy, tenacity and passion for this franchise," said Valavanis. "Her work ethic, basketball IQ and innovative approach are the right combination as we look to reshape our team. Jenny, myself and Force 10 Hoops are aligned in our vision and strategy to return the Storm to an elite team in the WNBA and look forward to getting started."

The Storm have the No. 1 pick in April's WNBA draft, and it remains unclear if three-time WNBA MVP Lauren Jackson will return to the team in 2015. Jackson has been limited by injuries the past few seasons.
