Davis, Pelicans take care of Pistons

Auburn Hills, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - Anthony Davis scored 27 points with 10 rebounds and four blocks to help the New Orleans Pelicans in a 105-94 win over the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday night.

Tyreke Evans tallied 18 points with nine assists and eight rebounds, while Ryan Anderson checked in with 17 points off the bench for the Pelicans, who snapped a five-game losing skid on the road.

New Orleans was without starting point guard Jrue Holiday because of a right ankle injury suffered in Monday's loss at Boston.

"We played the right way and that's the only way I can really sum it up," said Pelicans coach Monty Williams. "The ball moved, we defended (and) played in transition."

Brandon Jennings led the Pistons with 19 points and Greg Monroe supplied 16 points with eight rebounds in the loss, Detroit's second in its last 11 games.

New Orleans imposed its will on the inside to open the game as each of the frontcourt starters contributed to a 10-2 run. Davis opened and closed the initial spurt with baskets, then the Pelicans slowly built a double-digit lead late in the first after Eric Gordon's layup.

Detroit held New Orleans scoreless over the final 2:25 of the quarter, however, and closed to within 22-18 entering the second.

Jimmer Fredette scored eight points, including a pair of three-point plays, as part of a 19-2 run in the second that gave the Pelicans a 43-24 lead.

"We didn't do anything well in the second (quarter)," said Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy. "We brought absolutely no energy to the start of the game."

New Orleans shot a blistering 68.4 percent from the floor in the second and held a 58-36 advantage at the half.

The Pelicans led by as many as 24 in the third and had no trouble closing out the Pistons in the fourth to win their fifth straight in the series.
