Pittsburgh, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Olli Maatta will undergo shoulder surgery on Wednesday and will miss the rest of the season.

Maatta has not played since Dec. 6 due to the injury, electing to try a rehab program before considering surgery.

The 20-year-old also missed time earlier this season after he had a cancerous tumor on his thyroid gland removed in November.

Maatta has registered one goal and eight assists over 20 games this season. The Finn was selected No. 22 overall in the 2012 draft and posted nine goals and 29 points in 78 games as a rookie last season.
