Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Temple took the subway to play Kansas.

An early run and an unrelenting second half carried it the rest of the way.

Will Cummings had 19 points and the Owls rolled to a 77-52 upset of No. 10 Kansas on Monday night, shooting better than 58 percent from the field for its first win over the Jayhawks in exactly 19 years.

The game was never close, with Cummings sparking a 12-2 run at the start and the Owls (8-4) pulling away to lead by as many as 30 down the stretch.

"I thought we did as good a job we could've done on the defensive end," Temple head coach Fran Dunphy said. "It was our night."

It came 19 years to the day after Temple's last win over the Jayhawks, also a big upset.

The Owls beat No. 1 Kansas 74-66 in overtime on Dec. 22, 1995, during what was the inaugural Jimmy V Classic in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

The Jayhawks (9-2) entered this one riding eight consecutive wins since their 32-point loss to Kentucky on Nov. 18.

Only Frank Mason III scored double figures with a game-high 20, including 13 in the first half to keep Kansas from being run out of the building.

"A lot of it was self-inflicted, but they played good defense," Kansas head coach Bill Self said. "They did a lot of good things. Give them credit, but we didn't help ourselves much."

The Jayhawks shot only 32 percent from the field.

Temple arrived to the Wells Fargo Center via the Broad Street Line, riding the underground train six miles from its North Philadelphia campus to the South Philadelphia sports complex.

Cummings led the Owls with 11 points in the first half, including a 3-pointer to cap the six-minute run at the beginning of the game.

The Owls led by 14 three times in the half, the last on Quenton DeCosey's free throws in the final two minutes.

Kansas pulled within 35-25 at the break but got only as close as six early in the second half. Temple countered with an 11-2 run and kept its foot on the gas, taking a 20-point lead on Jesse Morgan's 3-pointer from the left corner with 9 1/2 minutes remaining.

DeCosey's dunk punctuated the rout, giving the Owls a 30-point lead with about a minute left. He scored 18 points in the win and Morgan had 17.
