Alameda, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Former CFL standout Kory Sheets will miss the 2014 season after suffering a torn Achilles tendon in Friday's game against Green Bay.
Sheets was competing for a backup running back and kick returner position on the Raiders, but on his Twitter account he stated: "A dream deferred....out for the year."
The 29-year-old signed a contract with Oakland in the offseason after a successful two-year run with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League. He set a Grey Cup-record with 197 yards and added two touchdowns en route to earning MVP honors in last November's CFL title game.
He finished second in the league with 1,598 rushing yards during the regular season while recording 37 catches for 264 yards.
Sheets signed with the Roughriders in 2012 and racked up 1,277 rushing yards while scoring 13 touchdowns (11 rushing, 2 receiving) that season. He added 517 yards on 49 receptions.
The Purdue product played two games for Miami in 2009 and spent the entire 2010 campaign on the Dolphins' injured reserve list after a right Achilles injury. He was waived by Miami the following year.
