Bellevue, WA (SportsNetwork.com) - Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch has been cleared of any involvement in an assault and property damage accusation, the Bellevue Police Department said Wednesday night.
"The Bellevue Police Department has determined that Marshawn Lynch was not involved in any way in an alleged assault at a Bellevue apartment reported on Sunday," the department said in a statement. "This case remains an open and active investigation. We appreciate the cooperation we have received from Lynch and the Seahawks organization during this investigation."
The Seahawks on Tuesday had called the allegations "bogus" in their own statement.
"While we maintain the utmost respect for the investigative process, after speaking with Marshawn, we are comfortable the accusations are bogus," the Seahawks said.
The Bellevue Police Department had said Monday that it was investigating Lynch over an allegation of assault and property damage after he was named by an unidentified woman in connection to an incident that occurred at an apartment complex early Sunday morning.
Lynch has been involved in off-field issues during his seven-year career. The workhorse back was suspended three games by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in 2009, while a member of the Buffalo Bills, after pleading guilty to carrying a concealed weapon in the trunk of a car.
He had his driver's license revoked following a 2008 hit-and-run accident in Buffalo. Four years later, he was cited for reckless driving in his hometown of Oakland, California.
Lynch, who has made the Pro Bowl in each of the past three seasons, held out the first week of training camp but returned on July 31 after the team agreed to turn $1.5 million in incentives and future pay into base salary for 2014.
