Toronto, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - Roger Federer and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga were semifinal winners Saturday the $3.145 million Rogers Cup.
The second-seeded Federer had little trouble in his match against Spain's Feliciano Lopez with a 6-3, 6-4 victory. Federer blasted 13 aces and won two break points to advance to Sunday's final against Tsonga.
Federer has won the Rogers Cup twice previously during his brilliant career, claiming titles in both 2004 and 2006. The 33-year-old lost to Novak Djokovic in the 2007 final and Andy Murray in 2010.
The 13th-seeded Tsonga ripped off seven aces and scored three service breaks to hand the seventh-seeded Grigor Dimitrov a 6-4, 6-3 defeat in Saturday's first semifinal.
Tsonga had previously stunned world No. 1 and three-time Rogers Cup champion Djokovic in straight sets during Thursday's third round, then followed up with a victory over the two-time tournament champ Murray in Friday's quarterfinals.
The 29-year-old had lost in two previous semifinal trips of this Masters 1000 event, falling to Murray in 2009 and Djokovic in 2011.
The winner of Sunday's title match will earn $600,000.
