Washington, DC (SportsNetwork.com) - American Donald Young upset No. 7 seed Kevin Anderson on Friday to reach the semifinals of the $1.4 million Citi Open tennis event.
The left-handed Young knocked off the 6-foot-8 South African 3-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 in just over two hours on the hardcourts at FitzGerald Tennis Center.
Young's semifinal opponent on Saturday will be second-seeded Canadian Milos Raonic, who beat American Steve Johnson 7-6 (7-2), 6-2.
The other semifinal will pit sixth-seeded Frenchman Richard Gasquet against the winner of the rain-delayed match between No. 10 seed Santiago Giraldo and 13th-seeded Vasek Pospisil, who rallied for a 6-3 win in the second set to tie the match before it was postponed.
Gasquet beat fourth-seeded Kei Nishikori of Japan 6-1, 6-4.
This week's U.S. Open Series winner will earn $316,400.
