Washington, DC (SportsNetwork.com) - Canadians Vasek Pospisil and Milos Raonic knocked off tough competition in third-round action Thursday at the $1.4 million Citi Open tennis event.

Pospisil, seeded 13th, ousted top-seeded Tomas Berdych 6-2, 6-4, while the second-seeded Raonic snuck past former champion Lleyton Hewitt in a 7-6 (7-1), 7-6 (7-3) final.

The former world No. 1 and two-time major titlist Hewitt, who was seeded 14th this week, titled here in 2004.

A pair of Americans eliminated seeded foes on the hardcourts at FitzGerald Tennis Center, as Steve Johnson upended No. 9 Ivo Karlovic 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (9-7), while Donald Young outlasted No. 15 Denis Istomin 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.

Also on Day 4, fourth-seeded Kei Nishikori downed Lukas Lacko 6-2, 2-6, 6-3; sixth-seeded Richard Gasquet defeated American Tim Smyczek 6-3, 6-2; seventh-seeded Kevin Anderson handled Malek Jaziri 6-3, 6-4; and 10th- seeded Santiago Giraldo cruised past Victor Estrella Burgos 6-2, 6-0.

This week's U.S. Open Series winner will earn $316,400.
