Thunder ink Telfair

Oklahoma City, OK ( - The Oklahoma City Thunder signed free- agent guard Sebastian Telfair to a contract on Tuesday.

Telfair was the No. 1 prep recruit in the country coming out of Lincoln High School in 2004, but has never fully lived up to expectations in an up-and-down career.

The 13th selection of the 2004 NBA Draft has been on seven different NBA teams and spent last season with Tianjin Ronggang of China, where he averaged 26.1 points and 6.0 assists per game.

He will add depth at the point guard position for OKC after Derek Fisher retired and took the New York Knicks' head coaching job.

"We are pleased to have the opportunity to welcome Sebastian to the Thunder organization and Oklahoma City community," Thunder general manager Sam Presti said in a statement Tuesday. "His competitiveness and work ethic have complimented his on-court leadership skills throughout his career, and we are excited to be able to integrate these qualities into our team."

Telfair has averages of 7.4 points and 3.5 assists per contest over his nine- year NBA career with Portland, Boston, Minnesota, the LA Clippers, Cleveland, Phoenix and Toronto.

Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
