BOWMANVILLE, Ontario – Gustavo Yacaman and Olivier Pla co-drove the No. 42 OAK Racing Morgan/Nissan to a dominating, flag-to-flag victory Sunday in the IMSA United SportsCar Championship race at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
It was the first victory for both drivers, and the first for the France-based team participating in its first season of racing in North America.
Yacaman started from the pole and led every lap of his driving stint before turning the car over to Pla.
Pla crossed the finish line 7.886 seconds ahead of Richard Westbrook in the Spirit of Daytona Racing Corvette DP.
"It's a long time coming," Yacaman said. "We did the job that we came here to do. We came here to win and we did it."
It was the third consecutive top-two result for Westbrook and co-driver Michael Valiante. The duo won the six-hour race at Watkins Glen last month and was second at Detroit.
Ricky and Jordan Taylor finished third in the Wayne Taylor Racing Corvette DP. The brothers unofficially lead the Prototype championship standings by five points over fourth-place finishers Christian Fittipaldi and Joao Barbosa of Action Express Racing.
Jan Magnussen and Antonio Garcia took their fourth consecutive GT Le Mans class victory in the No. 3 Chevrolet Corvette C7.
Jeroen Bleekemolen and Ben Keating won the GT Daytona class with a late pass.
