Sandy, UT (SportsNetwork.com) - Andres Gonzales carded a final-round 69 on Sunday and he went wire-to-wire to win the Utah Championship in decisive fashion.
Gonzales, who held a 4-shot lead after 54 holes, ended the tournament at 21- under-par 263, four shots clear of the field. The win is Gonzales' second on the Web.com Tour and his first since hoisting the trophy at the 2012 Soboba Golf Classic.
"I'm very excited. I played really well this week," Gonzales said. "I had a lot of help doing it ... I couldn't have done it without my caddie this week, Brandon DeStefano. I had a great time and played really well."
Adam Crawford, Sung Kang and Travis Bertoni all finished tied for second at 17-under 267. Crawford ended his final round with a 66, while Kang and Bertoni both fired 68s at Willow Creek Country Club.
Tony Finau ended alone in fifth at 16-under after his 68 on Sunday. Bill Lunde was right behind him at 15-under 269 after a 63, which was the low round of the day.
Chase Wright (67), Brett Stegmaier (68), Steve Allan (69) and Jeff Curl (71) all finished seven shots back of Gonzales at 14-under and they tied for seventh.
It was a pretty stress-free day for Gonzales. He started things off on the right foot with a birdie at No. 1, putting him at 20-under for the tournament. Gonzales added two more birdies a three and nine, and he made the turn five shots ahead of the field.
Gonzales poured in three straight pars from No. 10 before running into his first trouble of the day. The 31-year-old made a mess of the par-4 13th and he wound up making double-bogey, putting him back to 20-under. All of a sudden Gonzales' lead was three.
In the meantime, Kang birdied his final two holes to move to 17-under, while Kang and Bertoni also sat three shots back.
That was as close as anyone would get, however, and Gonzales showed his composure down the stretch. He made three straight pars from 14 before making a big birdie at No. 17. Gonzales pumped his fist when the putt dropped and he headed to the final tee up by four shots.
"I had a little hiccup at 13, but I was fortunate enough to play well enough the rest of the week," Gonzales said. "I was just leaning a lot on Brandon today. Brandon helped me out with everything. I didn't do any yardages, I didn't look at any leaderboards all week. The first time he told me to look at it was on the 18th tee. He helped me out a lot."
Gonzales stuck his first shot on the green at the par-3 18th and he two-putted from there to capture the title.
NOTES: Gonzales collected $112,500 with the win and that moved him to No. 7 on the Web.com money list. Gonzales also went wire-to-wire in his win at the 2012 Soboba Golf Classic ... The tour heads to Idaho next week for the Boise Open, where Kevin Tway will defend his title from a year ago.
