Flushing, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - New York Mets pitcher Jon Niese left Friday's 6-5 win over the Texas Rangers after one-third of an inning with what was later diagnosed as a lower back contusion.

Niese, who gave up a game-commencing home run to Shin-Soo Choo and a single to Elvis Andrus, appeared to be in discomfort after being hit with an Alex Rios grounder, and was removed after 12 pitches.

Carlos Torres was called on in relief, eventually tossing 4 2/3 relief innings while allowing two runs on five hits with four strikeouts.
