Germany's defense looked slow and unreliable in the 2-2 draw with Ghana. It will have to improve considerably if Germany wants to go far in the tournament.

The midfield could do with some adjustments as well, but the coaching staff insists it is happy with how the team has played so far.

Assistant coach Hansi Flicks says captain Philipp Lahm will continue to play in midfield and not return to his natural position as right back, a move that would bolster the defense. Lahm was unconvincing against Ghana, giving away the ball before Ghana scored the second goal.

Germany plays the United States on Thursday in Recife, when a draw would see both teams advance. Germany would win the group on goal difference, thanks to its 4-0 victory over Portugal.
