Twins take third straight from White Sox

Minneapolis, MN (SportsNetwork.com) - Joe Mauer hit a go-ahead two-run double in the fifth inning and the Minnesota Twins held on to beat the Chicago White Sox 4-3 on Saturday.

Minnesota has won the first three games of the four-game set, securing its first series win at home since May 16-18 against Seattle.

Twins closer Glen Perkins gave up a leadoff triple to Adam Eaton, who then scored on Gordon Beckham's sacrifice fly to get Chicago within 4-3.

Paul Konerko followed with a pinch-hit single to put the potential tying run on base but Perkins struck out sluggers Jose Abreu and Adam Dunn to end the game, getting Dunn after pinch-runner Leury Garcia stole second.

"Got a little hairy there at the end," said Twins manager Ron Gardenhire. "But it was pretty exciting to tell you the truth."

Kevin Correia (4-8) gave up two runs -- one earned -- on five hits and two walks in six innings to pick up the win.

The White Sox have lost seven of their last nine games and are 4-10 in their last 14.

Mauer's two-run double off the left-field wall in the fifth inning scored Danny Santana and Brian Dozier. Kendrys Morales bounced the next pitch through the left side to drive in Mauer and give the Twins a 4-2 lead, chasing Chicago starter Andre Rienzo (4-5) from the game.

Rienzo has lost his last five starts after going 4-0 with 4.11 ERA in first six.

"One inning. I always have that one (bad) inning," Rienzo said. "It happens so fast sometimes."

Earlier, Conor Gillaspie hit a two-out triple in the top of the first inning when Twins center fielder Sam Fuld made an awkward slide to catch the ball, and scored on Abreu's single to give the White Sox a 1-0 lead.

Chicago went up 2-0 in the second inning when Correia hit Beckham with the bases loaded.

The Twins mounted a two-out rally for their first run in the bottom of the second when Kurt Suzuki, Chris Parmelee and Eduardo Escobar all singled to load the bases and Fuld drew a five-pitch walk.

Game Notes

The Twins haven't won four in a row this season ... Perkins earned his 19th save ... Correia has given up just two earned runs in his last three starts (18 innings) ... Minnesota's success in the series has come after losing the last five games of a nine-game road trip.
