Cappelen leads by 2 after three rounds in Wichita

Wichita, KS (SportsNetwork.com) - Sebastian Cappelen fired a 5-under 65 Saturday and he holds a 2-shot lead following the third round of the Air Capital Classic.

Cappelen, who is at 14-under 196 through 54 holes, is making his professional debut this week at Crestview Country Club after winning a qualifier on Monday. Cappelen just graduated from the University of Arkansas, where he was a four- time All-American.

"I don't know what to say, it's all new to me," Cappelen said. "I'm just trying to do what I know best, and that's just play golf."

Cappelen holds a 2-shot lead over Andres Gonzales, who stands alone in second place after carding a 4-under 66 Saturday. Gonzales currently stands at 12- under 198 through three rounds.

Sung Joon Park had the low round of the day with a 6-under 64, earning him a tie for third place with three others at 11-under. Joining Park are Matt Weibring (66), Blayne Barber (67) and Rob Oppenheim (67).

Still in the hunt four shots back of the lead are amateur Ollie Schniederjans (65), Paul Claxton (67), Jeff Gove (68) and Aaron Watkins (71), all of whom are tied for seventh at 10-under 200.

Cappelen, who began the day two shots back of the leader Watkins, played bogey-free golf to go along with his five birdies.

Cappelen started things off with a par followed by his first birdie of the day at No. 2. He followed that with four straight pars before pouring in his second birdie at No. 7.

He made the turn with three more pars from the eighth and then rattled off two straight birdies at 11 and 12, which moved him to 4-under on the day and 13-under on the week.

A par on 13, a final birdie on 14 and four straight pars rounded out the round for Cappelen.

"I feel like I can control my trajectory really well," Cappelen said. "I'm able to work shots both ways and I'm very comfortable over shots when I'm fighting the wind. I'm pleased with the way I'm playing. I feel like I still have a really hot round coming."

Gonzales gained one shot on the lead after beginning the day three shots back. He too played bogey-free golf and picked up four birdies, including three on the back nine at 11, 12 and 15. Gonzales also carded on birdie on the front nine at No. 3.

Park started the day six shots back of the lead, but a barrage of birdies on the front nine had him in contention at the end of 54 holes. Three straight birdies to start the day had Park in business, and he followed those up with two more on five and seven.

Park slowed down a bit on the back nine, recording just one birdie on 11 to go along with eight pars.

Watkins held the lead after both the first and second rounds, but three bogeys hurt him in the third round Saturday. He will have some work to do if he wants to be back on top of the leaderboard at the conclusion of Sunday's round.

NOTES: Cappelen has gone 27 holes on the back nine without a bogey this week ... Gonzales is looking for his second career victory on the Web.com Tour, with his first one coming in 2012 at the Soboba Golf Classic. He also has a win on the Canadian Tour ... Schniederjans is now No. 1 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking with Patrick Rodgers and Matthew Fitzpatrick turning pro.
