Denver, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Chris Johnson went 3-for-4 with two RBI to lead the Atlanta Braves past the Colorado Rockies, 3-1, in the opener of a four-game series at Coors Field.
Christian Bergman made his MLB debut for the Rockies and threw six quality innings, but Gavin Floyd (1-2) was not to be denied a long awaited win.
Floyd, making his seventh start this season, gave up just one run on Corey Dickerson's homer. He lasted 6 2/3 innings and scattered two other hits and three walks to pick up his first win since Oct. 3, 2012.
"I felt like I've been pitching real well, but it's nice to have that first (win)," Floyd said.
Bergman (0-1) allowed just five hits and two walks over his outing, but the two runs Atlanta scratched off him in the fourth proved to be the difference.
"It was a thrill," Bergman said of his debut. "The only thing that could have made it better is if we came away with a win."
A leadoff single by B.J. Upton and a walk to Freddie Freeman set up the pivotal inning, as Evan Gattis pushed home Upton with a groundout and Johnson singled in Freeman with two away.
Dickerson solved Floyd to open the seventh, but the Rockies stranded runners on second and third when Luis Avilan retired Charlie Blackmon on a groundout.
The Braves put their first three hitters on against Adam Ottavino in the eighth, with Johnson singling in Justin Upton, and Shae Simmons and Craig Kimbrel each pitched a scoreless inning of relief to close out the win.
Kimbrel worked around a two-out walk in the ninth to pick up his 17th save.

Floyd had dropped six straight decisions ... Bergman, a 24th-round pick in 2010, singled in his first big league at-bat ...
