Corvallis, OR (SportsNetwork.com) - Oregon State said Monday night it has hired Wayne Tinkle to take over for Craig Robinson as men's basketball coach.

Tinkle, 48, has coached Montana the past eight seasons, leading the Grizzlies to three appearances in the NCAA Tournament and a 158-91 record, including a program-record 97 conference wins.

He replaces Robinson, who was fired May 5 after going 94-105 in six seasons as Beavers coach.

Tinkle, a two-time Big Sky Coach of the Year, had a winning record in seven of his eight seasons with Montana.

Oregon State athletic director Bob De Carolis said Tinkle's hiring "begins a new era in Beaver men's basketball of regularly competing within the top echelon of the Pac-12 for the conference championship and for postseason NCAA competition."
