Jonathan Newsome is ready to get to work with the Colts — and now he has the contract to do it.

The Colts signed their fifth-round draft pick Wednesday, two days before rookies are scheduled to be in town for a three-day minicamp. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the process of signing rookies has become expedited with the slotting process under the new collective bargaining agreement.

Newsome is a 6-foot-3, 236-pound defensive end. He had 16½ sacks in two seasons at Ball State after transferring from Ohio State. Indy is hoping he will emerge as a pass-rushing complement for reigning sacks champ Robert Mathis.
