London, England (SportsNetwork.com) - The Premier League title race took another dramatic twist on Monday as Crystal Palace came from three goals down in the final 11 minutes to earn a 3-3 draw against Liverpool at Selhurst Park.
The Reds appeared to be on the verge of a big win after building a 3-0 lead in the opening 55 minutes.
However, Palace got a lifeline in the 79th when Damien Delaney's deflected shot found the top corner of the net for Palace.
The hosts then stunned Liverpool with two goals in the final nine minutes from substitute Dwight Gayle, which could potentially deal a fatal blow to Liverpool's title aspirations.
Liverpool returns to the top of the league with the result, but the club is now just one point clear of City, which can take hold of the title race with a win over Aston Villa on Wednesday.
City also holds a big edge in goal difference over Liverpool, meaning that Brendan Rodgers and his team must get help in order to have a chance at winning their first league title in 24 years.
Joe Allen netted his first goal of the season in the 18th minute when he found himself unmarked at the back post and was able to head home Steven Gerrard's corner kick.
The visitors then scored twice in two minutes to take a three-goal lead as Daniel Sturridge found the net with a deflected shot before Luis Suarez played a one-two with Raheem Sterling and beat goalkeeper Julian Speroni after taking the return pass.
But with 11 minutes to play, Palace was fortunate to pull a goal back when Delaney's long-range shot took a wicked deflection on its way past goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.
Two minutes later, Yannick Bolasie picked out Gayle for a first-time finish from 12 yards that really had Liverpool back on its heels.
And the improbable comeback was complete in the 88th minute when Glenn Murray flicked a ball on for Gayle, who ran through the middle of the defense and slotted his shot underneath Mignolet.
