Washington, DC (SportsNetwork.com) - The Pittsburgh Pirates put right-hander Stolmy Pimentel on the 15-day disabled list Friday with a mild right ankle sprain.

It's the second time the 24-year-old reliever has been sidelined due to injury this season, after serving a stint on the DL due to inflammation in his pitching shoulder back in May.

Pimentel has gone 2-1 with a 5.40 earned run average over 19 appearances this season.

The move was made to accommodate the addition of pitcher John Axford to the active roster. Axford was claimed off waivers from the Cleveland Indians on Thursday.

Axford was 2-3 with a 3.92 ERA in 49 contests for the Tribe, one year after finishing a combined 7-7 with a 4.02 ERA in 75 games with Milwaukee and St. Louis.
