New Mexico cornerback SaQwan Edwards is being held without bond after surrendering to authorities in a rape case that previously led to the arrest of teammate Crusoe Gongbay.

Edwards was booked late Tuesday into an Albuquerque jail on suspicion of criminal sexual penetration.

Coach Bob Davie says the 21-year-old redshirt junior from Houston has been suspended from the team according to policy.

It's not immediately known whether Edwards has a lawyer. University police Lt. Tim Stump did not immediately respond Wednesday to messages from The Associated Press.

Gongbay was suspended from the team after being arrested in the April 13 incident in which a female student said she was raped. Gongbay's lawyer has said his client is presumed innocent.

A former student also has been arrested in the case.
