Oeiras, Portugal (SportsNetwork.com) - Third-seeded Spaniard Marcel Granollers rallied past countryman Albert Montanes in second-round play at the $590,000 Portugal Open, a clay court French Open tune-up.

Granollers beat Montanes by a 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 margin to secure his spot in the quarterfinals. Granollers was the lone seed in action on Day 3.

Montanes won this tournament in 2009 and 2010.

Up next for Granollers is Spanish qualifier Daniel Gimeno-Traver, who posted a 6-3, 7-6 (7-2) win over Portuguese wild card Rui Machado.

The first round also came to a close on Day 3, with Portuguese wild card Gastao Elias besting Italian Filippo Volandri 6-4, 6-3.

The 2014 Oeiras champion will collect $107,000.
