Pizarro's double sees Bayern thump Bremen

Munich, Germany ( - Claudio Pizarro scored twice in the span of four minutes on Saturday as Bayern Munich thumped Werder Bremen, 5-2, at the Allianz Arena.

After stumbling to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Real Madrid on Wednesday in the semifinals of the Champions League, Pep Guardiola's men were back in fine form on Saturday.

The started poorly, however, as it was Werder Bremen that struck first just 10 minutes in through a goal from Theodor Selassie.

The Bundesliga champions responded quickly as Franck Ribery drew the Bavarians level 10 minutes later.

Aaron Hunt put the visitors back in front in the 36th minute, but the second half belonged to Bayern. Pizarro struck in the 53rd minute and quickly completed his brace four minutes later to give the hosts a 3-2 lead.

Pizarro's second goal took the wind out of Bremen's sails and Bayern crusied from there as Bastian Schweinsteiger made it 4-2 just past the hour mark and Arjen Robben added a fifth goal in the 74th minute.

Bayern will now turn its attention to the second leg of the Champions League next Tuesday, hoping to reverse their 1-0 defeat, while Bremen remains in 14th place in the Bundesliga on 36 points.

Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund played to a thrilling 2-2 draw on Saturday at the BayArena.

The hosts got off to a quick start as Lars Bender scored in the seventh minute, but Oliver Kirch equalized for Dortmund in the 29th minute. Six minutes later Gonzalo Castro gave the hosts the lead, but Marco Reus netted his 16th goal of the season to rescue a point for Dortmund.

Also in the Bundesliga on Saturday, U.S. international John Anthony Brooke scored just past the hour mark, along with a goal from Sami Allagui as Hertha Berlina claimed a 2-0 victory over Braunschweig at the Olympic Stadium.

Shinji Okazaki and Christoph Moritz scored first-half goals to hand Mainz a 2-0 result over Nurnberg at the Coface Arena, while Marco Terrazzino netted an equalizer for Freiburg seven minutes from time in a 2-2 draw with Wolfsburg.
