Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder says his team's nickname is not an issue and it's "time that people focus on reality" concerning these matters.

Snyder said Tuesday the Redskins did their homework — "unlike a lot of people" — when the team recently established a foundation to assist American Indian tribes.

Snyder spoke at a ceremony at which the Redskins donated one-tenth of the $1 million cost to refurbish a local high school sports field. It was the first time he had addressed the name controversy since establishing the foundation for Native Americans.

Snyder has insisted he will not change the team name despite assertions from Native Americans and others that it is offensive.
