Bucharest, Romania (SportsNetwork.com) - Fifth-seeded Vasek Pospisil and sixth seed Andreas Seppi came up opening-round losers, while reigning champion Lukas Rosol avoided an upset Tuesday at the $590,000 BRD Nastase Tiriac Trophy tennis event.
Romanian qualifier and crowd favorite Adrian Ungur knocked out the Canadian Pospisil 5-7, 6-2, 6-1, while Argentine Carlos Berlocq ousted the Italian Seppi 6-0, 2-6, 7-6 (7-4) on the red clay at BNR Arenas.
Another upset came when qualifier Paul-Henri Mathieu upended seventh-seeded fellow Frenchman Nicolas Mahut 6-3, 6-1.
The Czech Rosol resumed his winning ways in Romania by beating Italian Filippo Volandri 6-1, 7-6 (8-6) on Day 2. Volandri was a finalist here back in 2006.
Rosol beat Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez in last year's Bucharest finale.
Additional wins came for Romanian favorite and Bucharest resident Victor Hanescu, Romanian wild card Marius Copil, Lithuanian qualifier Ricardas Berankis, Uzbekistan's Denis Istomin, and Dutchman Robin Haase. The 2007 Bucharest runner-up Hanescu handled Israeli Dudi Sela, 6-3, 6-4.
On Wednesday, top-seeded Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov will take on fellow rising star Jiri Vesely in the second round.
The 2014 winner here will collect $106,725.
