Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Philadelphia Flyers have signed defenseman Andrew MacDonald to a multi-year contract extension.

Terms were not disclosed. He was set to become an unrestricted free agent at the conclusion of the season.

MacDonald joined the Flyers in a deal from the New York Islanders before the trade deadline in March and picked up four assists in 19 games with Philadelphia.

The 27-year-old Nova Scotia native finished the season with four goals and 24 assists for a career-high 28 points in 82 games with the Islanders and Flyers. He also led all NHL players with 242 blocked shots.

MacDonald was selected by the Islanders in the sixth round of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. He has 17 goals and 76 assists for 93 points in 314 NHL games since making his debut during the 2008-09 season.
