HARTFORD, Conn. – Thousands of fans are expected to turn out for a victory parade and rally celebrating the dual national championships won by the University of Connecticut men's and women's basketball teams.
The parade is set to kick off at the state Capitol at 4 p.m. Sunday and wind its way through downtown Hartford. A rally will follow.
The UConn men's team beat Kentucky for the national title April 7, while the UConn women's team defeated Notre Dame for its record-breaking ninth championship the following night
UConn is the only school to win both the men's and women's Division I basketball championships in the same year, a feat they also accomplished in 2004.
Gov. Dannel P. Malloy says Connecticut businesses have raised $70,000 to pay for the parade and rally.
