Rennes, France (SportsNetwork.com) - AS Monaco will attempt to keep its faint chances of claiming the Ligue 1 title alive on Saturday when the club heads to the Stade de la Route de Lorient to face Rennes.

Claudio Ranieri's men enter the weekend 13 points off of first-place PSG's pace, and the likelihood of Monaco erasing such a deficit with just six matches to play is minuscule.

But even while the club attempts to mathematically remain in the title race, there is still plenty on the line for Monaco.

Ranieri's men earned a 3-1 win over Nantes last time out, a win that saw Les Rouge et Blanc maintain their six point advantage ahead of third-place Lille while ensuring a top-five finish for their first season back in the French top flight.

A win over Rennes on Saturday would see Monaco secure a top-four finish to guarantee European football for next season, but a loss would open the door for PSG to clinch to the title on Sunday with a win at Lyon.

PSG has been riding high in Ligue 1 action, winning its last eight league games and going unbeaten since Dec. 4, 2013. Two more wins would be enough for Carlo Ancelotti's side to secure the title, assuming Monaco takes maximum points from its remaining games.

Lille is unbeaten in its last nine Ligue 1 matches, a streak it will look to extend on Saturday when it hosts relegation-threatened Valenciennes.

Along with Valenciennes, Sochaux and Ajaccio enter the weekend in the relegation zone, and they will attempt to strengthen their survival odds with positive results against Toulouse and Bordeaux, respectively.

Rounding out Saturday's Ligue 1 slate, Nice and Lorient will attempt to snap their respective winless runs when the two sides do battle at the Allianz Riviera while Evian will look to make it four matches without defeat when it hosts Bastia at the Parc des Sports.

Sunday's action will see Nantes host Guingamp and St. Etienne travel to Reims, while Friday's lone match saw Dimitri Payet score the winner in the 89th minute to hand Marseille a 3-2 victory over Montpellier.
