Bogota, Colombia (SportsNetwork.com) - Reigning champion and former world No. 1 star Jelena Jankovic was an easy quarterfinal winner Friday at the Claro Open Colsanitas tennis event.

The top-seeded world No. 9 from Serbia handled Spanish qualifier Lara Arruabarrena 6-4, 6-4 on the red clay at Centro de Alto Rendimiento.

The 29-year-old Jankovic, who beat Argentine Paula Ormaechea in last year's Bogota finale, will meet South African Chanelle Scheepers in Saturday's semifinals.

Scheepers upset eighth-seeded Spaniard and Bogota stalwart Lourdes Dominguez Lino, 6-2, 6-1. Dominguez Lino titled here in 2006 and 2011 and was the runner-up in 2005.

The other semi will pit fifth-seeded Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia against sixth-seeded American Vania King. Garcia grounded Swiss Romina Oprandi 6-1, 7-5, while the 25-year-old King got past Bogota's own Mariana Duque-Marino, 7-6 (7-4), 7-5. Duque-Marino captured her hometown tournament in 2010.

The 2014 Bogota titlist will earn $43,000.
