(SportsNetwork.com) - Suzann Pettersen announced Tuesday she has withdrawn from the Kraft Nabisco Championship with a back injury.

The second-ranked golfer in the world cited an aggravated disc in her back as the reason she will not be able to compete.

"It's so unfortunate that I can't compete this week," Pettersen said in a statement. "I dearly love this event and would do anything to play. At this point, I just need to be smart and not make a bad situation worse."

Pettersen is a 14-time winner on the LPGA Tour and a two-time major champion.

She has made four starts this season and has a pair of top-10 finishes to go along with a tie for 28th at the ISPS Handa Women's Australian Open and a share of 29th at the JTBC Founders Cup.

She had finished inside the top five in five of her last seven starts at the Kraft Nabisco Championship, including a share of third in 2013.

Pettersen did not give a time table for when she expects to return to action, but her statement said she is currently undergoing treatment in an effort to get back to competition as soon as possible.
