Scottsdale, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Patrick Corbin underwent surgery on Tuesday to repair a damaged ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow.
The procedure was performed by noted specialist and surgeon Dr. James Andrews.
Corbin exited his final tune-up start on March 15 with what the team called "forearm stiffness" at the time. In the middle of an at-bat with one out in the seventh inning against the Indians, Corbin was forced to leave the contest due to the injury.
An MRI taken later that night showed damage to the ulnar collateral ligament, which is a telltale sign that surgery is likely required.
Corbin stayed in Arizona, while Wade Miley was tabbed to take his place on the club's recent trip to Sydney, Australia to take on the Los Angeles Dodgers.
In four spring starts, Corbin went 1-1 with a 3.26 earned run average. The left-hander was an All-Star in 2013, posting a 14-8 record with a 3.41 ERA and 178 strikeouts in 32 starts.
