The Bengals have signed quarterback Jason Campbell to be Andy Dalton's backup, a move that brings the franchise full-circle in several ways.

Campbell has played for Washington, Oakland, Chicago and Cleveland. He started eight of the Browns' last nine games last season.

The nine-year veteran was the starter in Oakland in 2010 and 2011, when he broke his collarbone midway through the season. At the urging of coach Hue Jackson, the Raiders traded two draft picks to get Carson Palmer from the Bengals, opening the way for Dalton.

Jackson is Cincinnati's new offensive coordinator.

Josh Johnson was Dalton's backup last season, but wasn't needed. He finished off two lopsided wins and didn't throw a pass.
