Davie, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Miami Dolphins traded Jonathan Martin to the San Francisco 49ers on Tuesday for an undisclosed draft pick, ending the offensive tackle's troubled stay with the Dolphins after less than two years.
"We feel that this move is in the best interests of all parties involved. We wish Jonathan well," new Dolphins general manager Dennis Hickey said in a statement.
Martin walked away from the team in October, touching off a bullying scandal that rocked the Dolphins and led to the suspension of offensive lineman Richie Incognito for the remainder of the season.
An independent report released to the NFL last month concluded that Incognito and two other offensive linemen, John Jerry and Mike Pouncey, "engaged in a pattern of harassment" against Martin, another young offensive lineman and an assistant trainer.
Incognito recently sought psychiatric care at a facility in Arizona, according to reports. The Dolphins fired offensive line coach Jim Turner and head athletic trainer Kevin O'Neill in the wake of Ted Wells' report to the NFL.
Martin, a second-round pick of the Dolphins in 2012, had started the first 23 games of his NFL career before abruptly leaving the team.
"Opportunities are few in the NFL," he tweeted Tuesday night. "Can't wait to get to work."
Neither team disclosed the nature of the draft pick acquired by Miami.
