Surprise, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - The Texas Rangers placed left-hander Derek Holland on the 60-day disabled list Monday to make room on the 40-man roster after claiming infielder Andy Parrino from the Oakland Athletics.

Holland had arthroscopic surgery Jan. 10 to repair torn cartilage in his left knee after being injured in a fall at his home. He was expected to miss the beginning of the season.

Parrino batted .118 with a .343 on-base percentage and two doubles in 36 plate appearances for the A's last season. He appeared on 79 games for the Padres from 2011-12.

Holland, who had a 3.42 earned-run average and 189 strikeouts in 33 starts last season, isn't eligible to return to the active roster until May 29.
