Olympic skicross racer Maria Komissarova may be evacuated from Sochi after surgery on a fractured spine.

The spokesman for the Russian freestyle ski federation, Mikhail Verzhba, said Sunday that her condition "remains grave but stable, it's considered satisfactory taking into account the gravity of the trauma."

He told The Associated Press that doctors will decide Sunday whether to evacuate her to another clinic, and a charter plane is ready.

During training Saturday, Komissarova fractured the 12th dorsal vertebrae in her lower-middle back and underwent several hours of emergency surgery near the Rosa Khutor Extreme Park.

Russian President Vladimir Putin visited the 23-year-old Komissarova Saturday night in the hospital.

International Olympic Committee officials and Sochi organizers would not comment Sunday on her condition or the circumstances of the accident.
