Krasnaya Polyana, Russia (SportsNetwork.com) - The United States and Canada combined to qualify six freestyle skiers for the final round of women's slopestyle Tuesday at the Sochi Olympics, but gold medal favorite Kaya Turski of Canada was not among them.
Turski, a four-time X Games gold medalist in slopestyle, was considered to be the top competitor in the field but she crashed in both of her runs on Tuesday and finished 19th with a best score of 28.00. The top 12 skiers qualified for Tuesday's two-run final round.
Despite Turski's disappointing showing, Canada will have three skiers in the medal round, as Dara Howell, Kim Lamarre and Yuki Tsubota posted three of the top four qualifying scores.
Howell led with a score of 88.80, followed by Lamarre's 85.40 and Tsubota finished the qualifying phase in fourth with a score of 81.00. Great Britain's Katie Summerhayes was third.
All three U.S. participants punched their tickets to the final round with Devin Logan leading the way in fifth place. Julia Krass qualified in eighth position, while Keri Herman, runner-up to Turski at last month's X Games in Aspen, Colo., barely made it to the finals with an 11th-place showing.
Maggie Voisin, a 15-year-old American, did not participate in the event due to an ankle injury suffered during training on Friday.
Turski, who suffered a torn ACL back in August, crashed her first time down the course on Tuesday and was slow to get up. She was able to attempt a second run, however, but crashed again after failing to generate enough speed heading into the last jump. The 25-year-old Montreal native received a score of 14.60 for her first run and a 28.00 in her second attempt.
