KRASNAYA POLYANA, Russia – Franz Beckenbauer. Boris Becker. Maria Hoefl-Riesch.
The greats of German sport usually find their way toward agent Marcus Hoefl.
And for the Alpine skier formerly known as Maria Riesch, the client relationship is a little closer.
"This is really unbelievable," Hoefl told the Associated Press at his wife's victory news conference after she won the super-combined event Monday. "Three gold medals in six Olympic races."
The now-Hoefl-Rieschs were dating when Maria won the super-combined and slalom events at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.
They married the following year — weeks after Riesch took the overall World Cup title, ending Lindsey Vonn's three-year victory streak — at Kitzbuehel, Austria, where Hoefl's management company is based.
Football great Beckenbauer was not course-side Monday, though he was in the mountains above Sochi on Sunday, watching another German retain his Olympic title: luger Felix Loch.
"He's got a plane to take home today," Hoefl-Riesch told reporters asking about the men who captained and coached West Germany to win football's World Cup. "But he brought me a bit of luck"
No questions about Becker, though he is no longer a Hoefl client.
"Not any more," Hoefl said. "I had to focus on my wife."
