Tony Armstrong scored 22 points as Alabama State knocked off Texas Southern 79-73 in overtime Monday night.

Texas Southern held a 69-67 advantage with 2:42 remaining in regulation when Alabama State's Jamel Waters made one free throw. Later Brandon Graham made the first free throw attempt to tie the game at 69, but missed the second with 1:18 remaining. Neither team could score thereafter.

Alabama State (12-7, 6-2 Southwestern Athletic Conference) took control in overtime as Maurice Strong, who had 18 points, made a layup and a jump shot to put the Hornets out front to stay.

Texas Southern started strong, making 16 of 32 field goal attempts, and held a 37-25 halftime advantage. Alabama State got hot in the second half, making 51.6 percent from the field and went on to hit 60 percent in overtime.

Aaric Murray led Texas Southern (9-1, 5-3) with 26 points.
