Novi Sad, Serbia (SportsNetwork.com) - Serbia salvaged a pair of dead rubbers on Sunday against Switzerland in the first round of the 2014 Davis Cup.

The Swiss had already clinched the best-of-five tie on Saturday after the doubles team of Marco Chiudinelli and Michael Lammer had followed Friday singles wins for Roger Federer and Australian Open champ Stan Wawrinka with a four-set victory for an insurmountable 3-0 lead.

Dusan Lajovic gave Serbia its first point of the weekend with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 win over Lammer in the first reverse singles match Sunday before Filip Krajinovic made it a 3-2 final with a 6-4, 6-4 triumph over Chiudinelli.

Serbia, last year's Davis Cup runner-up to the Czech Republic, played without superstar Novak Djokovic, leaving the 102nd-ranked Lajovic as the host nation's top player for the weekend.

Switzerland, which previously beat Serbia in a world group playoff back in 2006, will next meet Kazakhstan in April's quarterfinals. The Kazakhs advanced with a 3-2 win over Belgium this weekend.
