Detroit, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - The Detroit Tigers avoided arbitration with catcher Alex Avila after agreeing to terms on a one-year contract with an option for 2015.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Over 102 games last season, the 27-year-old Avila batted .227 with 11 home runs and 47 runs batted in.
In five seasons, all with the Tigers, Avila has batted .254 with 51 homers and 222 RBI.
