Greenville, SC (SportsNetwork.com) - Furman University football will try to build off a trip to the FCS playoffs during a 12-game 2014 schedule announced on Thursday.

The Paladins, who earned a share of the Southern Conference title and beat South Carolina State in the playoff first round last season, will play six home games and six road games, highlighted by a trip to the University of South Carolina.

Furman will kick off coach Bruce Fowler's fourth season with an Aug. 30 home game against Gardner-Webb. The Paladins also will host Coastal Carolina (Oct. 4) in non-conference action as well as Southern Conference opponents Western Carolina (Sept. 27), Samford (Oct. 25, Homecoming), Wofford (Nov. 15) and Tennessee at Chattanooga (Nov. 22).

The visit to South Carolina on Oct. 18 will be the 49th meeting in a series that dates to 1892. The two teams last met in 2010, when South Carolina won, 38-19.

The Paladins also have non-conference trips to Presbyterian (Sept. 13) and South Carolina State (Sept. 20).

Furman will visit Mercer on Sept. 6 for the Bears' first Southern Conference game. They also will go to VMI, which is returning to the SoCon, on Nov. 1 as well as The Citadel on Nov. 8.
