Melbourne, Australia (SportsNetwork.com) - Novak Djokovic and David Ferrer cruised to victories Sunday in the fourth round of the men's draw at the Australian Open.
The second-seeded Djokovic, looking to become the first player to win four straight Aussie Open crowns, steamrolled Italy's Fabio Fognini, the No. 15 seed, in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0, 6-2, at Rod Laver Arena. Djokovic fired off seven aces and converted on six break points in the match, which lasted just over 90 minutes.
The dominant Serbian has won all four matches in straight sets and moved to 7-0 all-time against Fognini.
"I felt from the start of this tournament that I've been elevating my game as the tournament is going on. Every match is better," Djokovic said.
One of the more entertaining matches in last year's Aussie Open saw Stanislas Wawrinka nearly stun Djokovic in the round of 16. Djokovic prevailed 12-10 in the fifth set of the five-hour, two-minute marathon.
Wawrinka won on Day 7 to set up a rematch in the quarterfinals.
The eighth-seeded Swiss, who received a walkover in the third round following Vasek Pospisil's withdrawal due to a back injury, battled past 17th-seeded Spaniard Tommy Robredo 6-3, 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-5).
Ferrer, meanwhile, defeated Germany's Florian Mayer, 6-7 (5-7), 7-5, 6-2, 6-1. After dropping the first set in the tiebreaker, the third-seeded Ferrer bounced back to win eight of 15 possible break points. Ferrer committed 43 unforced errors, but was aided by Mayer, who had 49 unforced mistakes.
Up next for the Spaniard will be Tomas Berdych.
The seventh-seeded Czech made quick work of Kevin Anderson, beating the 19th seed in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, 6-3. Berdych improved to 10-0 against Anderson, who was looking to become the first South African man to reach the quarterfinals at a Grand Slam since Wayne Ferreira's semifinal run at the 2003 Aussie Open.
