Seattle, WA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Seattle Mariners signed catcher John Buck to a one-year contract on Thursday.

Buck hit .215 with 15 homers and 60 RBI in 101 games last year for the New York Mets. He was traded to Pittsburgh on Aug. 27 and appeared in nine games for the Pirates.

The 33-year-old Buck has combined to hit 63 homers over the last four seasons, fifth-most among catchers behind Brian McCann (85), Matt Wieters (78), Carlos Santana (71) and J.P. Arencibia (64).

In 1,058 career games with the Royals, Blue Jays, Marlins, Mets and Pirates, Buck has hit .234 with 170 doubles, 133 homers and 485 RBI.

Seattle designated outfielder Carlos Peguero for assignment to clear a spot on its 40-man roster.
