(SportsNetwork.com) - Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin was named to the 2014 Russian Olympic team.

Ovechkin will be making his third Olympic appearance. In his two previous Winter Olympics appearances, Ovechkin has recorded seven goals and two assists in 12 games.

The 28-year-old Ovechkin has 31 goals and 12 assists in 40 games this season.

Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin and former New Jersey Devils sniper Ilya Kovalchuk also headline the 25-man roster unveiled by the host nation.

The other forwards are Artem Anisimov (Columbus), Pavel Datsyuk (Detroit), Denis Kokarev (KHL), Nikolai Kulemin (Toronto), Valeri Nichushkin (Dallas), Alexander Popov (KHL), Alexander Radulov (KHL), Sergei Soin (KHL), Vladimir Tarasenko (St. Louis), Alexei Tereschenko (KHL) and Viktor Tikhonov (KHL).

The goaltenders are Sergei Bobrovsky (Columbus), Semyon Varlamov (Colorado) and Alexander Yeryomenko of the KHL.

The defenders are Anton Belov (Edmonton), Alexei Emelin (Montreal), Andrei Markov (Montreal), Evgeni Medvedev (KHL), Nikita Nikitin (Columbus), Ilya Nikulin (KHL), Fedor Tyutin (Columbus) and Slava Voynov (Los Angeles).
