St. Petersburg, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Tampa Bay Rays have officially re-signed first baseman James Loney to a three-year, $21 million contract through the 2016 season.

Loney signed with the Rays as a free agent prior to the 2013 campaign and led the team with a .299 average while slugging 13 homers and knocking in 75 runs over 158 games.

A first-round pick (19th overall) of the Dodgers in 2002, Loney spent his first six-plus seasons in Los Angeles before being traded to Boston in the blockbuster deal that sent Carl Crawford and Adrian Gonzalez, among others, to the Dodgers.

Loney, 29, owns a career .285 average with 86 homers and 534 RBI in 1,084 games over eight seasons with Los Angeles, Boston and Tampa Bay.
