Naples, FL – Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig was arrested Saturday and charged with reckless driving after police say he was clocked going 110 mph on a Florida highway, according to multiple reports.
Puig, driving a 2013 Mercedes, was arrested around 9:30 a.m. on a stretch of Interstate 75 known as Alligator Alley, according to the Naples Daily News.
He was released later from the Collier County Jail on a $500 bond, the paper reported.
The Los Angeles Times reported Puig was "cooperative" with police after being pulled over in the 70 mph zone.
The Dodgers released a statement Sunday saying, "We have spoken to Yasiel and made it clear that we, as an organization, are very disappointed in his recent behavior. This is a very serious issue to us and we will continue to educate him and strive to further develop his growth off the field and as a member of this community."
Puig defected from Cuba and signed a seven-year, $42 million deal with the Dodgers in June of 2012. He had an impactful rookie season, batting .319 with 19 home runs, 42 RBI, 11 stolen bases and a .391 on-base percentage in 104 games.
