(SportsNetwork.com) - Veteran reliever Joaquin Benoit has reportedly agreed to a contract with the San Diego Padres.

According to CBS Sports, the right-hander will earn $15.5 million over two years. The deal is pending a physical.

Benoit, 36, stepped into the closer's role for the Detroit Tigers last season, converting 24-of-26 save opportunities. He made 66 appearances overall and finished with a 2.01 earned run average.

For his career, Benoit has compiled a 44-35 record with a 4.11 ERA in 541 games for Texas, Tampa Bay and Detroit.
