The Carolina Hurricanes announced on Wednesday that rookie forward Elias Lindholm will be assigned to Sweden's team for the upcoming World Junior Championships.

Lindholm helped his native country capture the silver medal in last year's tournament, then was selected fifth overall by Carolina in June's draft.

The 19-year-old has totaled three goals and four assists in 21 games for Carolina this year.

The announcement comes a week after the Minnesota Wild assigned fellow rookie blueliner Matt Dumba to play for Team Canada.

This year's WJC will begin on Dec. 26 and are staged in Malmo, Sweden.
