Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Phillies signed catcher Wil Nieves to a one-year contract on Thursday.

Nieves appeared in 71 games last season for the Arizona Diamondbacks, batting .297 with one home run and 22 RBI. Over the last two years, the 36-year-old has batted a combined .299 in 103 games.

Nieves is a career .242 hitter with eight home runs and 103 RBI in 385 games with the San Diego Padres, New York Yankees, Washington Nationals, Milwaukee Brewers, Colorado Rockies and Diamondbacks.

Additionally, the Phillies have signed right-handed pitcher Jeff Manship to a minor league deal with an invitation to major league spring training.

Manship appeared in 11 games last season for the Colorado Rockies and went 0-5 with a 7.04 ERA.

In his major league career, the 28-year-old has a 3-7 record with a 6.42 ERA in 52 combined games for the Minnesota Twins and Rockies.
